Volunteer's History.

Exploring our History:

  • Falmouth Volunteer Fire Department Co. 1 is organized on March 5, 1941
  • Prior to 1941, the City of Fredericksburg provided Stafford County with fire protection
  • Estimated population of Stafford County from 1940 census was 9,548
  • First Fire Chief was William P. Quesenberry and First President was Dent Monroe
  • 1943 a two bay converted garage was acquired for suitable storage on US 1
  • First piece of apparatus was a converted 1937 Cadillac with a 500 GPM pump and two 55 gallon drums for water supply, ladders, forest rakes, and Indian tanks
  • The Department ran 33 fire calls during our first year of operation
  • Main source of funds was through fundraising activities
  • 1945 Our first new pumper only cost $5,600
  • 1959 a GMC Seagrave was purchased for $25,000
  • 1960 Mountain View VFD Co. 4 became our first satellite station
  • 1965 Brooke VFD Co. 5 became our second satellite station, and our call volume was 200 calls that year
  • On May 29, 1965 Falmouth Co. 1 Fire Station on US 1 is renovated and expanded to meet the growing needs
  • 1966 Hartwood VFD Co. 6 became our third satellite station
  • 1970 White Oak VFD Co. 7 became our fourth satellite station
  • 1973 the first custom Seagrave Pumper was purchased for $37,000
  • Falmouth purchased 4 new pumper, one each for each of the satellite stations on Ford Chassis
  • 1982 Falmouth started the planning and building of the current station on Butler Road for $350,000.
  • 1988/89 Falmouth purchased 4 Grumman Fire Cats for $875,000. (2 for Co. 1 and 2 for Co. 4)
  • 1994 a Pierce Heavy Rescue was purchased for $750,000
  • 1996 a Pierce Engine was purchased for $400,000 and one of the 1989 Grumman was sold
  • 2004 the Falmouth Fire Volunteer Firefighters Association renovated our Butler Road station for $1,450,000
